Le Rougarou

Tonight the evening is rife
with dark magic best kept out of sight.
Revenge, a dish served cold,
will be, to the arrogant and the bold;
lives shall be forever broken
and others finally made whole,
retribution, a mere token,
when the asking price is the soul.

A debt owed, is a debt that shall be paid,
by the bourgeois who mistakenly thought
none would ever dare declare it claimed.
The moon mistress stands sentinel this night
observing a *bokor conjure a nightmare fright,
a true horror, instrument of her revenge,
as her assistants play the drums seemingly without end.

They call a dark spirit forth, coaxing it to lend
its power over life and death and thereby
the ability to complete her bloodthirsty revenge.
Slowly the demon enters her body carriage,
thus enabling her to execute her endeavors;
while her body houses this depraved entity within,
it licks and laps at, with its forked tongue,
her soul’s exquisitely sweet vengeful sin.

The serpentine whispers she hears within her mind,
sound like a lover seducing his virginal bride;
"I may not want to leave once the festivities unwind"...
yet I remain silent, for now is not the time to expel
the malignant ooze there writhing in delight.
I will need all my guile to succeed this night,
against the demon carefully called forth
from the *nganga, fed with blood, bone and gore.

In order to succeed I must make
this wily demon, to my will bend.
This night red rivers of blood will run
like the prophecies of Armageddon.
For every lash of the whip I was put under,
each rape I endured, for all the tears
of humiliation my creole mother ever cried,
I will exact the justice due with vehement pride.

My bourgeois half sister will be made to pay
for the sins of her father and the ones
she committed against me that fateful day.
She would die a horrible death along with her brood;
no mercy will be given, not even to innocent youth.
Revenge this night has a very sweet tooth;
her bloodline will end for sure, devils food!

Ah and who better to perform this unpardonable deed
then the husband who followed her in deceit and greed.
Fore who really cares that hespurned my innocent love,
but then rapes me, a creole to be used then disposed of.
He was to marry the master's daughter, my half sister,
Proper, pristine and lily white thus becoming a proper Mister.

Oh but little did these fools know, I am a dark *bokor,
a mambo, as was my blessedly powerful mother before,
well taught by my slave grandfather, feared by everyone
because he was one of the leopard people, *abakúa.
And now to the night, my arms raised, I cast …

“Hear my plea, give me justice for these wrongs
and unto the culprit this curse I place forevermore!”

“Cruel lover proudly walking around,
to the night you will be forever bound
For all your heartless acts and deeds
You will crave flesh on which to feed.”

“I condemn you for the crimes of this life,
to lament the day you married your wife
fore a bitch she was as anyone could see,
mated to her, a beast you shall eternally be.”
“Be cursed, know for your heinous acts
you'll never again feel love's contact,
forsaken by all goodness and light,
to live a half life is your horrid plight.”
“With this blood I spill, an offering I make,
my will be done and my revenge I take,
grant me this plea, oh spirits of the night
as it is said so shall it be, so sayeth I.”

Let your tormented spirit finally find peace,
when mine enters the heavens forgiven for my sins…
