Only words

I'm not asking you a question
To beg those words of you
Only words am I expecting
Not presuming they are true

A thousand times, my ears could hear
Those words at my request
No need for words to cause you fear
Pretensious words; at best

No deep meaning must they hold
Nor committed promises they say
I will take them as they're told
I'm not asking them to stay

Just as quickly as they're sent
The moment passes; and they too
But briefly in that moment
I belong to you
