THE DISINFECTION

Reminiscent of a misguided illusion          
I still claw my way up the walls of the abyss          
The abyss that I alone carved          
Breathing has become so labored          
But all I once knew smolders beneath me: burning away so furiously          
         
I can’t curb my demons          
I feel a shadow stir within the hollows of my heart          
And writhe amid the shallows of my mind          
It will leave me blind to anything but its face                
Oh God, this suffering is too much to bear    
         
Memories from the maw of hell lives within my mind          
Lingers in my veins        
I wait for the light to dissipate, for reality to slip away once again          
If only I could bleed out all the things I’ve felt          
’Cause they never leave          
         
I am a world that sows seeds of anger, hatred and discontent          
And reap a crop of violence, discord and evil intent          
         
Son of the morning: flip every joker card; try to make me grieve      
But I won’t let you deceive me         
I won’t let you deceive me this time          
The truth will set me free          
You’re the infection of this world but I’m embraced by the disinfection          
         
My heart cries out for you        
My heart cries out for you, God        
I weep by your side like a newborn child          
I’m just a man who has been broken too many times          
I’m so sorry, forever sorry    
This suffering is too much to bear
