Charlie, Part 1: Humble Beginnings

Miss Beatrice Baker was a pastry maker who lived with her son in a village.
She was often annoyed with her vanishing boy who would be missing when work's to be finished.
Despite who would hear her she'd curse and she'd jeer to poor Charlie, though usually deserving.
She was notoriously livid and her son as dim-witted, their purpose on earth was concerning.

It was on a typical day and there was bread to be made, though as per usual her boy was astray,
She left dough in the oven for longer than wanted to dish up some justice his way,
Only she lost track of time and returning to find all the bread were a smoldering ruin.
Furious, she kicked in a hissy-raged fit, aware this could spell her undoing.

"I've enough of this shit!" She let curse from her lips, "It's about time that my boy should be dealt with.
"If I cutout his costs I could minimize loss and completely be free of his stresses."
So for several weeks after she lowered her anger to let herself boil and brood
Till when a birthday drew near for her son she'd premier an idea that would sure be a boom.

Beatrice baked up a pie with gunpowder inside, devising a treat with a kick
And with a simple addition, a candle ignition disguising the fuse as a wick.
As for the finishing touches she reached for her brushes which were drooling of acetone
And with vigorous strokes sat a pie that was soaked in a coat that'd be sure to explode.

She took several steps backwards to admire her work; her very own 'poisonous apple',
And like an excitable child she cheered and she riled, unable to hold all her cackles.
"This is actually it, an end to that nit! How could I've not thought this sooner?
"Acting 20 years late was my biggest mistake, well that next to not getting neutered."

Then came the day sweet Bea had awaited when her worries would blow up in smokes,
She set up a basket with the pie and some matches and in giddy exuberance spoke,
"Ouh sweet child of mine here I baked you a pie, though to the forest is where you must eat it,
"And not a bites to be bitten until you are well away hidden, so the local boys won't forcibly steal it."

Charlie's eye beamed and his appetence teemed with a hunger lust he's never experienced
For never before had his mother done more than prepare bread rolls with butter and beans.
"Now remember." Said Bea, "You'll have to be quick and you cannot make any sort of stop."
She made a brisk little gesture concluding her lecture, "Now shoo!" Blurted Bea with a swat.

Charlie assured as he fled to heed what mother had said as he trekked to the forest's edge,
Though it was darker than thought he took a moment to stop before managing to gather his courage.
So began his adventure past a sign "do not enter", what a shame that this boy was illiterate,
For then he'd have seen the proper sign read, "This way to safe haven of St. Frederick."
