This Life Can't Belong To Me

How did I get here?  Is this really my life?
Surely this is the life of someone who was raised in one of "those" families
I'm the sweet Catholic girl from the upper middle class neighborhood
So this life can't belong to me, can it?

When I walked down that aisle, I'd never been so happy
He was the one, he was it...my knight in shining armor
I would never become a statistic, I'd never know divorce
So this life can't belong to me, can it?

My every wish had come true, I really had it all
The beautiful house, the dog and the cat, the 2.5 lovely children
I was born to play the role of Suzie Homemaker, and I played it well
So this life can't belong to me, can it?

I'd seen those women on Oprah and Dr. Phil, and I'd shaken my head in disbelief
How could they not know such atrocities were being committed under their very own roofs?
I'm a responsible parent, and a great mom, and I would never miss the warning signs
So this life can't belong to me, can it?

I would know if something were wrong with my children
I would know if someone had harmed them
And no one would ever hurt my babies on my watch
So this life can't belong to me, can it?

But here I am, with a huge slice of humble pie before me
Divorce, detectives, criminals, protection orders...they're all part of my everyday world now
Someone please wake me up, I must be dreaming
'Cuz this life can't belong to me, can it?
