Tentative Vanity
She stares at her reflection
Gaze darting here and there
Wondering and guessing
What, to others, does she appear?
Some said she's plain and flawed
Others saw an exotic creature
A queen as though her name says
All she sees is imperfection in the mirror
She wants to exalt herself
For the good things she spies
But she sees something amiss
Unsatisfying to her critical eyes
She hesitates to call herself
Any such name as beautiful
But she can't help but say it
To convince it to be factual
She wishes she were a bit more curvy
To not be so straight up and down
It's a vain thought in her mind
To want to be admired all around
She can't help her wandering thoughts
Even though she wishes she could
Why does she want to be sexy?
And shun the notion of being good?
She's aware of her slight conceit
But is humbled by what she lacks
She's just a small adolescent girl
That's just an obvious fact
Gaze darting here and there
Wondering and guessing
What, to others, does she appear?
Some said she's plain and flawed
Others saw an exotic creature
A queen as though her name says
All she sees is imperfection in the mirror
She wants to exalt herself
