Queen of Goodbye

She is the vision that few men behold in a lifetime.
her business card is a farewell note.
it begins with: Dear _______ (fill in your name)

She is Eve, Jezebel, Cleopatra.
Salome’, who would take a man’s head for a doorstop.
an angel in tattered, soiled silk,
devil-girl, with neon eyes and flaming lips…

when you saw her, your eyes became wide,
you wanted to speak, but your throat was frozen.
so she said it for you:
***  I know I’m beautiful.  ***
She’s not conceited, she’s simply aware.

She once asked you  What do you do for fun?
the concept was unfamiliar.   I don’t know…..I write poetry.
She said that’s fun?
and then she showed you fun…Fun…sweaty,
pulsating, and thoroughly draining.

as she brushes her hair, she says  That’ll be a hundred, baby.
you admit:  I’m broke, but can I do something for you?
She turns, and spits out  Write me a poem!
(you don’t think she’s serious.)

and she goes on her merry way,
wearing mangled hearts and crystalized tears
as trinkets on her charm bracelet.
