ANISOPTERA

(Jasper's Dragon(fly)

Rainless leaves,thistledown,
Created practically of nothing,
but of substance quite enough'
To be extended eyes, reflecting Life,
And two translucent emerald twigs
To be perfect perpetual motion--
Ravenous, insatiable hunger,
Grappling love.

Unencumbered by Earth's confinements,
Transcendent link between Air and Water,
Light touches wing to shift fragmented patterns--
Irridescence on prismatic lace--
Carnivorous twice-born predator;
You splinter into heat.

Swiftness, eluding calculation, capture,
You dart into shadow's solace,
Skyrocketing into dawn's mist--yet ultimately,
As when wind flattens fields,
Your design, and purpose halt;
You drift among the August husks--
                    Your soul's release...
                                rebirth...
                                redemption.

"Time is for Dragonflies, and Angels. The former live too little, and the latter live too long." ~~James Thurber.

AUTHOR'S NOTES: This poem was inspired by, and written for my Friend, Jasper Silence.

In myth, a Dragonfly, was believed, to have once been a Dragon.Today, the dragonfly symbolizes change....and change in the perspective of self-realization, and the kind of change that has its source in emotional, and mental maturity.To rise above materialism...to be able to see into the vastness that is really the Universe,and our minds.    [/font]
