Letting Go

In the wee hours of night
the memory of you trapped me,
I yearned to hear your voice,
to feel your touch
but reality hit and I had to
resign myself to the fact
that you would not fight
for our love,
our personal truth.

Everything in life
cannot be easy,
but you could not face
the challenges in your path,
so you just let what we shared
become one more thing
to lament in your past.

Now here I stand
with the mirage of what was
and the emptiness
it has become…
One more of life’s ironies,
the more you love,
the more vulnerable you become
and in the end
the devastation that’s left
is the only evidence
of the fiery passion
you brought into existence.
