Child Is Born With A Heart Of Gold But...

Addiction is a somber reality
in some form it touches us all
maybe only a higher power spares
dissent into total decay
that saucy creature that makes you pine
a video game that ends up occupying hours
the beverage that you need to start your day

BUT

What about corporate addictions
court says they are people too
the scariest of them all
is the addiction to war

Justified violence even makes people giddy
a quick history lesson will tell you
that there may be no nation state that
doesn't have book marks in combat
a civil war, a ruthless leader, an exodus
of refuges overwhelms and makes vital services scarce

And no one condemns the weapons dealer
sitting pretty in the black
he doesn't care who he sells to
as long as the price is right
and the bombs and bullets don't discriminate

Yes we would be foolish to say we don't
need any defenses but go deeper
and you may find the line is blurred between
O and D and it happens all the time
and more basic we must admit that even those
times when the weapon is the only friend
the fact that it comes to that
means that humankind has failed in being human

Don't try to jive me it has been said all before
but violence flows throughout our blood
me, you, this nation, the planet
dissect American history and it can been seen

Native Americans been fighting terrorism since fourteen ninety two
The Middle Passage what was a brother to do
Asians went into camps FDR did declare
business and government made a lovely pair

So if we really want to make a claim as the harbingers of peace
don't throw out the nuances like a slim shady attorney in court
peaceful warriors don't export destruction
or make it a tax deduction...
