good life

I am past twenty four hours
without a cigarette.
Don't congratulate me, I am broke.

Not the college kid eating Ramen noodles
and thinks its cute broke

nope, these are the cushions been ransacked
and the quick schemes came up
or didn't
broke
electric is going off tomorrow
broke
the kids don't know that parents didn't eat
broke
have about 28months of strict budgeting
to put these shoes with giant holes to rest
broke

and no nip.
Even cheap liquor
to laugh from crying broke
sounds nice.

I miss that immature
day to day'er, late for rent
but always on time for a laugh.

Miss that not caring to know
what tomorrow brings, because at the end
broke, but throw a couple cheers around the bar
cause we are all in this together.

The good life
takes a patience that a lesser man
doesn't know. I am faking it.
Not less, but fuck if all this humble
ain't bone dried, and lying.
