All Out Motherf%@ģing War

A slight shift in the air
a steady rhythm
pulsing out across the plain
a drum roll to the oncoming chaos
as through the mist they came

They came by tens
by hundreds
by thousands
forming a phalanx
and falling in to order

The atmosphere was electric,
all tension taught
as the men waited
for the battle
soon to be fought

A wave of cavalry led the charge
leaving infantry in their wake
as many galloped to the gallows
skewered by so many archers arrows,
their horses falling tail over nose

As the soldiers from both sides met
there was a resounding susurrus
as a line of spears and shields collided...

And then the game began.

There was a lot of
last breath taking
death row shaking
and more than a bit
of orphan and widow making

Afterwards,
a maroon field of bloody dew
reflecting the death
as the sun broke through.
