table manners
should have known
that I was only throwing shadows
at the bastard
words are often bigger
than I'd like
dug myself in enough
here at the kids table
have gotten comfy
with these cubes
they lie like I lie
throwing tantrums of truth
the adolescents have stolen the wine
and are writing names on walls
life has not begrudged them poetry
the adults have all died
or become artists
and I still need to talk
that I was only throwing shadows
at the bastard
words are often bigger
than I'd like
dug myself in enough
here at the kids table
have gotten comfy
with these cubes
they lie like I lie
throwing tantrums of truth
the adolescents have stolen the wine
and are writing names on walls
life has not begrudged them poetry
the adults have all died
or become artists
and I still need to talk
