There's a Calm Before the Storm

Flood waters from June monsoon rains
Slowly receding, giving way to a fresh lake
The weather was inviting, so we set-off to sail
On a catamaran, one Saturday afternoon
To a nearby island resort full of wonders
Promising a night of endless fun and excitement

Halfway through the voyage, lightning struck
From nowhere it came, hitting the boat’s mast
Roaring thunder drowned our frantic call for help
On a CB radio, but no answer on the receiver
As there was no signal, cell phones were useless
Fear slowly crept upon our restless minds

Full moon madness overshadowed our hearts
As I recalled a line from one of my favorite songs:
“There’s a calm before the storm”
I can’t believe it was happening to us
Instead of a romantic night under the moonlight
Darkness blanketed the angry waves tossing us around

All of a sudden a fiery object the size of a basketball
Came circling upon us from under the deep sea—
Followed with ear-piercing sounds never before heard
Deafening and creepy as it was, we fainted and collapsed
Never knew what happened afterwards…
As we woke up in the island resort, a week later
