I Love Burlesque

 



Growing was up I used to watch
the weakly televised vedets,
seasoned performers of burlesque,
gorgeous dancers of fine cabarets;
so glamorous, so beautiful
every man desired her in every way
every woman loathed her  for the same.

she embodied and exuded sex,
showing men what they
wished to ardently possess,
but will never, ever get,
she was an unapologetic coquette,
flaunting all his desires
becoming his fantasy’s poppet.

I have grown up…  
Oh, I must confess…
there nothing I like better
than dancing burlesque.
Shimmy, shimmy, shake, shake
wiggle just a little till they
in their shoes quake…

All eyes on me, they see
what they want to see,
every night I create for them
every kind of sensually
forbidden erotic fantasy.

I show them a little… then I take it back,
flaunt a little, but what they see is not fact,
illusion, not really there,
everything is cleverly concealed
but enough to fool the mind  
making them painfully aware.

The thrill, the tease
the illusion of make believe,  
I am yours, performing just for you,
the audience ceases to exist,  
you become oblivious of everything  
but the movements of my supple hips

oh how you would sell your soul
if only you could capture
what your eyes behold,
but that is not to be
fore when my show is over,
reality is obvious to see;
I am a performer, a coquette
a burlesque dancer;
something I skillfully
made you forget.
