"Looks Like We Lost Detroit"

Detroit
poster child for urban decay
thousands of residents
without a voice or a say

Here was motor city
Robocop
Detroit rock city
Beverly hills cop.
down on its knees
begging please
but no one listened.

She gave us
Alice cooper
Mc5
Marvin Gaye when he was still alive
The stooges
Meat men
Negative approach
Wayne state university students
Motown records
and Ted Nugent!!

From midtown to the Henry ford
From Layfette park to Brightmoore
to the stray dogs who no one wants anymore
they or felt the pain as a city died
got down On there knees broke down and cried
but hope comes from a new generation
with fingers crossed, prey for this city's Regeneration.

Gill Scott Heron once sang
"We almost lost Detroit"
and now his prediction has come to pass
looks like we lost Detroit baby!
