Searing Rain
Stuck in an endless cage,
Hands against the walls.
Rain falls around me.
I wonder what it feels like to cry.
The rose that bloomed
So long ago
Is dead now,
Its petals rest in the dirt
With my hope and love.
Life happens around me.
I'm a rock in the stream of time.
Fingers of reality brush me,
But I'm afraid to grab hold.
Afraid I'll break in the
Crushing waves of emotion.
Hiding in my forced world,
I built the cage to keep
Myself out,
But know I'm trapped inside.
The key dangles on a spider's thread.
I fear that one more breath will snap it.
Moonlight paints the blood in silver.
I want night to come,
But I'm afraid.
I'm balanced on the hands of a clock.
With every beat I slip farther,
So that the cage inside seems ever more inviting.
I watched from distant shores as others
Loved and lost.
I burn the rose petals and
Toss their ashes to the wind.
Hands against the walls.
Rain falls around me.
I wonder what it feels like to cry.
The rose that bloomed
So long ago
Is dead now,
Its petals rest in the dirt
With my hope and love.
Life happens around me.
I'm a rock in the stream of time.

But I'm afraid to grab hold.
Afraid I'll break in the
Crushing waves of emotion.
Hiding in my forced world,
I built the cage to keep
Myself out,
But know I'm trapped inside.
