Always Remember

I've spent many days and years
Erasing people out of convenience
Just so I don't have to hurt
Myself by remembering the times we had.
I deleted my best friend
From my very world and I saw
Him a week later, and acted like
I never even knew who he was.
Like he never had met me
And became important.
We reconciled and I told him this
And he told me it was sad.
Sad that I was deleting it all,
Including the good with the bad.
He said 'Do you want to keep repeating
all the mistakes you've made in
the past?'

I could only stare at him and
Say softly, 'No, never again
Do I want to feel that.'

A month later from that talk
I've messaged all those ones
Who I erased without a care from
my world, to tell them I was wrong.
I hope this will bring the closure
That I desperately need, and maybe
I will find a friend that I had
Once deleted.

So in the end of this poem,
This chapter in the story of my life,
I'll end it with a small idea
That I discovered in my strife.

"I'm bringing an end to this all now,
Not to forget you permanently, so have no fear.
But because I want to look back at this
And see your face, and always remember."
