First Sight Not Always Right

That first impression
everyone says so vital
how many do nothing more
then show off a fancy title?

Like the profile, it has it's place
but the surface is as far as it usually goes
below are marbled layers
other things one needs to know

Doesn't tell if that person is happy
at at point where pleasure can be found
in the simple activities
no matter who is around

It doesn't reflect the warmth of a smile
how it can't lighten up even a stranger's day
a reward not to be measured
by the stocks that a company links to pay

When there is a conflict is the instinct to attack
to eliminate or dehumanize someone not liked
or is there an understanding you don't change minds
when the only outcome is a physical fight

You may learn of all the toys in possession
but it doesn't reflect the joy and quality of the play
is not making time for loved ones
a dear price that had to be paid?

And can you really put a price on a kiss
or a hug with a squeeze nice and tight
when a person is far from that dear one
is facing a lonely night?

So keeping up with the in crowd
is always in the magazines and all the rage
I suggest that there are truer indications
of the quality of the lifeline wave

For David once told as when he got to two roads
he picked the one not traveled as much
behavior matters not only with smooth seas
but also when in a crunch

So a first impression that profile
might even tell you all
all that is except what is most important
like the manner of a person even after the fall
