Masquerade

Life is like a ball
people wearing masks
white as bone
red as blood
I wander in, lost and alone
not sure who to dance with
I go off on my own
my mask dangles by my side
a blank solemn face
no use to wear it
so it seems
people are fake enough as is
using masks to hide their hate
I come upon another
just like me
although her mask is like mine
solemn and blank
with not a care in the world
we take hold of our hands and dance
letting our hope run down our wrists
as our hearts are upon our sleeves
blazing through the song of life
until every last bastard
leaves
