The Bargain

Locked away in the dungeon of my master
chains keep me bound for his entertainment
a possession, not a cherished one at that
my only wish is for freedom from containment
day after day, lonely, crying from heartache
my endless sorrow causes me to wish to die
this can't be all there will be for my life
must be something better and I'd love to try

one day a mighty storm rolled over head
wind winding the clouds high in the sky
crashing sounds, roof is yanked up and away
master never came to get me, wish I knew why
the clouds started to part, birds flew all around
debris swirling dangerously close to my location
a huge dark cloud was getting closer and closer
seemed like this storm would be the end of creation

the dark cloud came to life before my very eyes
carried a large sickle in his large bony hand
he was wearing a black cape with a hood on his head
how he had gotten there, I will never understand
with a skull for a face and fire in his eyes
he stood before me and raised up his shiny blade
I closed my eyes tight, and ducked my head in fear
screamed out, startled by the crashing noise he made
when he struck, not me, but the chains were his target
with a mighty stroke of his hand, my body was now free
he reached down and lifted me up into his waiting arms
I didn't know if he was here to save me or to kill me

he never spoke out loud, but his voice was in my head
with a deep sinister voice he declared "I am Mr. Grimm"
he said my wishes to die were about to be answered
he told me, he came to free me, and take me with him
but now that I am faced with my death, with the end
now that I am free from the chains of my imprisonment
my soul cried out for me to fight to save my life
to beg him not to kill me, to change his evil intent
I would need to convince Mr. Grimm to allow me to live
get his frozen heart to melt and feel some compassion
with my arms around his neck I hugged him tightly
looked in his eyes, kissed him on his cheek of ashen

I felt him hugging me, just a little bit tighter now
the flames in his eyes had appeared much less intense
I decided he may be warming, so I kissed his cheek again
to show him my compassion for him without any pretense
I was wondering if he would be up for some kind of bargain
thinking that there must be a way for me to save my life
Mr. Grimm must have been reading my mind the entire time
for he said, "yes there is, you could agree to be my wife"

my choice was to die or to become his blushing bride
now what else would a girl in this predicament do
I squeezed him tighter, gave his cheek another kiss
look in his eyes and replied, "Of course I'll marry you"
so that's how the bargain started on that stormy day
when she agreed that yes, she would be married to him
she was freed from the dungeon, and she found love
she lived on, married, changed her name to Mrs. Grimm
