The Hurt

I've got this heaviness
Pressing-down unrelentlessly
Upon my heart
Blowing it up
Eventually
Shredding it
Leaving shards

So if at times I lash-out and cut
Please don't take it personal
It's not against you
You're beautiful
And to me, mean the world
It's just that sometimes
The hurt
Sometimes the pain
Sometimes I remember, the former things
And it comes again

You've married a man, that has a past
And who like you, my dear wife
Had love that was smashed
Cause the finger upon which you put my ring
That is symbolic of the commitment
that we made
Is part of a body, that is made-up of scars
There was a time when I was caught-up in a moment of transition
I nearly lost my mind and
At some point
Went missing
I stayed gone for a while
Now slowly, I'm working my way back
The smile once again on my face
I, "Thank You," for that

But we all, in our on time and way
Regather the pieces
And look for someone, who'll help ease the
Battle-scarred body
Rife with wounds
That come with love
Rub in the healing balm
That'll reinvigorate the soul

So if at times I lash-out and cut
Please don't take it personal
It's not against you
You're beautiful
And to me, mean the world
It's just that sometimes
The hurt
Sometimes the pain
Sometimes I remember, the former things
And it comes again
