THE TRAVELLER 1

The road has stretched out again
Before me like a naked virgin
It lies naked ahead
Speeding into the horizon
Like a rushing river;
Twining itself in the distance
Like a wicked snake
And calling at my spirit
Beckoning and calling all the time
To remind me of my many more miles
I must cover.

Not that I am a stranger to travels
All the lands I have traversed
All the faces and places
All the peoples and cultures
All the obstacles I have crushed
And all the wealth I have gathered
The wealth of knowledge and of gold
But can man weigh success?
Can he measure it
To know how much is enough?

So I must continue
The many more miles untouched.

Why do they talk of settling down
When my blood is boiling
With determination
And my bones are ready
For the journey

Stagnancy shall never
See my back
And unchallenged is unwelcomed
But can man measure achievement?
