I Got Tattoos

I got tattoos
because I find it therapeutic,
I crave the healing;
blood and ink
dripping down my skin,
can't wait to cover it in plastic
just to show it off
as it's fresh.

I got tattoos
to express my own style,
to reveal images
that relate to my life,
covering my flesh in colours
for all to see.

I got tattoos
to remind myself of the things
I've lost or were taken
to the grave
and of my heart
so I can experience the pain
again
just to feel
closer somehow.

I got tattoos
and yes,
they hurt like Hell,
and they've kept me closer
to my soul.
