Birth of a Storm

The blue of day
washes away
scrubbed clean by
Gray clouds

Raindrops riding on
winds back
wrap lightly on
window panes, tin roofs, and parched concrete

Quiet calm takes hold
Except Birds
Flying about to be bathed
Singing and dancing on the air

Inside my eyes are heavy
watching the drips
drop slowly down
the slider doors
My eyelids
slide slowly
towards the floor

Drips like drums
increase the beat
The sky opens its mouth to sing
A low rumbling voice

Lights
inside and out
Flash
with excitment

Even the birds
are quiet now
Returning to their perches and nests
I too find myself
a cozy place to perch
To enjoy
