Rocks
Alone, I stand as a rock
Against the pounding waves and winds of your despair
Steadfast, unwavering. And I am worn.
Weary and bloodied by the wolves who mean to devour you
As you sup from the teat of comfort and carelessness.
Exhausted from being your shoulder of tears
And blanket of warmth as you hover above the pit of gloom.
Jaded as you whine and wail, uninvited to dine
At the banquet of liberty.
And here I kneel, weary and weeping
Unable to surrender as God himself
Forbids the fall of the rock of ages.
