HENRY VIII ON ANNE BOLEYN

(An imagined rant by Henry VIII after discovering reports his second wife had had adulterous and incestuous liaisons.  She was imprisoned in the Tower of London and executed after being found guilty of “Adultery, Incest and Treason”.)

King Henry’s heart had turned to stone,
All thoughts of love from him had flown,
In their place his anger had grown.
“That harlot hath not slept alone;
By other men she has been known -
And one her very flesh and bone!
Such sin on earth can I condone?
In Bible times she’d get the stone!
Unfit to sit beside my throne,
Of my standing she’s lowered tone.
Into the Tower she be thrown!
With her own head she can atone
If ‘guilty’ verdict the court own.”
