Heart Communication

We don't have to know each other well
To know someone is stressed
It only takes love to tell
And detect some sort of mess
Then from that point it's up to us
To decide what we want to do
Leave that person all alone
Or find a way to help them through
I think it's far too easy
To ignore another's cries
Watch them while they're bleeding
Leave them to their own demise
Shut down empathy response
Pass by like it's nothing
So many people in this world
But never enough loving
We're so focused on our lives
And providing for ourselves
That we forget what times were like
When we wished for someone else
Everyone gets a little lost
Desperately seeking direction
Eyes closed to the real cause
And unable to find correction
Emotions can cause distortions
Making the right path hard to view
Some people can pick themselves up again
Others can't figure out how to
We shouldn't fear reaching out
I think it's worth the risk of trying
Encourage emotional expression
Create a safe place for confiding
Think about the solid ground
That we all could build to stand on
Love and support abound
To hold us up when we're not strong
So I hope those afraid to talk
Will do a little more speaking
That more people learn to listen
Without notions preconceiving
That those often in confusion
Are open to understanding more
Because each one of us is human
And it's up to us to unlock the door
For one of the greatest things
Tearing humanity apart
Is forgetting what it means
To communicate with the heart
