The Undiscovered Country
Version Two/Placeholder
Months since that stillborn morning
when they pulled me, ashen, from your arms
I did not ask to be delivered
from the endless evening to the dawn
(So, from here, the words are all changing, but it occupies the same head space *wry smile*)
It’s been months since that stillborn morning
when they pulled me, ashen, from your arms
Surrender was the only option
To which side the only question
They carted me away and kept us apart
I heard myself promise to give fair warning
if ever again you darkened my door
I am breaking all kinds of rules
Just the idea of you sets off alarms
But surely imagining their disappointment
is more than I’m meant to bear
Tell me, if I close this chapter
and cross that unforgiving border
will I then know peace?
Or does all this heartache come to nothing?
Is it to be rainbows or rust?
