Power of Depression

Murmurs floated in the room
While I sat at my desk, silent
The room grew darker
From the corner in the far right
The others had not noticed
The black illuminating, as it
Slithered further into the
Confided area
No one noticed
No one saw the
Dark spotted snake
Move slyly closer to my seat
My hands started shaking
I tried to ignore its hiss
Its haunting whisper
"They don't even notice
The crystals from your eyes.
No one cares about you,
no one would miss you."
I gripped my ears
Trying to stop the
Tempting advice
The sly snake hinted at
I smiled a smile of pain
As tears washed over my face
It was curling around my leg
Inching its way upwards
I chanted my cry
"You are not real!
You are not real!
You are not real!"
"Does that matter?"
The creature responded
With a confidence that
I did not possess
It clung to my clothing
To my body
As it spiraled further up
Moving swiftly up my torso
It began to grow more
From an inch worm
To sizable climbing rope
It wrapped my neck
A scarf tightening itself
"You want to die."
The snake said
In a low evil tone
"No, I don't!"
I hollered back
Breathing fast
And uneven
I held the snake
Wait, the rope?
My eyes widen
As I felt my body lifting
Leaving the chair
My feet dangling
The rope was a noose
I gasped, kicking
Fighting the inevitable
While my classmates
Went about their normal
Lives. I reached out
For help but no one saw
No one wanted to see
So they didn't
As I breathed my last
Breath I knew that
The snake was right
"Thank-"
