rodeo

a man must know his strengths
as well as his faults
if he wants to run with the bulls

and me, I know I'm shit
with first impressions
my strength, the second

she thinks,
"who does this bummy looking bastard, think he is?"

I hadn't said a word,
'spose she ain't used to a man
feeling so comfortable in a space
that's not paid for

"doesn't he own a razor?"
she scowls from the inside

"sorry toots", my curled lip tells her
"men still looked like men, when I came up"

said the glare in my eye, as she remembered
the odd man in the park that made her laugh
as a child. She thinks he's still there
feeding ducks, he still hasn't "gotten it together",
now she hates me twice.

Ignore, is how that first part plays out.
Accidentally laughs, the beginning of the second

I refuse to tell her that I am an artist
because that is selling out "making sense"
to the lowest bidder

This is where the second impression counts,
because ain't no woman worth the moons' pull
gonna admit when she's wrong, even in her own head,
so then the magic takes place, she had known all along
there was something interesting about me
