From My Ashes

Questionable behavior? I do confess
That often I’ve left my life in a mess

Wrong turns? I’ve taken dozens a day
Sometimes it takes a while to find my way

Bad choices?  Some think I’ve never learned
And every scar you see is one I've earned

Poor decisions? I’ve made more than just a few
But I always did the best I could with what I knew

Misguided intentions? Of those I am guilty
But I’ve never hurt another purposely

Have I stumbled? Yes, but when I fall
Somehow I manage to save it all

Do I know darkness? I’ve felt its pain
I’ve suffered in silence as my tears fell like rain

Take a new path? It’s easy to arrange
Start a new direction when it’s time for change

Back to the start? That’s where I always begin
When life destroys my world again and again

Yes, you’ve seen it before, that look in my eye
That says I’ll grow stronger rather than die

So why do you look at me with such surprise
When every time that I burn, from my ashes I rise?
