Cell Door Slams Shut

 

Standing in court, he kept up the show
Bad man act yet to go
Charges are read out
Taking something that was not his
Something that can never be returned
So valuable, yet he stole it without a thought
A young life lost
Two families crying for different reasons
He is crying and scared on the inside
False bravery on show
Wished he had listened
Too late now

Cell door slams shut, bravado once shown crumbles
Lying in bed with his own thoughts in the dark
Tears fall from his eyes
Where are your friends now?
Look where you reckless life has lead you
Instead of being your own person
You allowed yourself to get caught up in confusion
A follower instead of a leader
Look where you are now
Acting like you forgot right from wrong

Your mother tried to keep you off the street
She cried and pleaded
His father’s words carried no value
Why should he listen?
He was always M.I.A (missing in action)

Two lives at sixteen over
Sitting there thinking how did I get here
Gave no thought for his mindless decisions
Wish he had listened
Caught up in the moment
Looking for more than he thought his mother could give him
Fathers love missing
Two mother’s heart broken
One visiting the grave
One visiting prison
Because of his actions
Scared, confused, angry
Not a man just a boy
Too many lives destroyed
These young minds have to educated
Knowledge is strength
Self-worth is a must
Hope has to be given
The right tools to survive
A reason to strive for better
Another way of life shown
A whole generation’s numbers are too low
Future fathers gone
The graves and jails
Are already too
