Resurrection

Wrought iron gates meant to protect
Protect who?
Segregate the freed from the burdened
This was not a boundary for us but merely an invitation
Set me free

I did as I was taught as a boy in a congregation seeking
Resurrection
Redemption

Fall to my knees and speak in tongues
Begged for the holy water that led to the after life

She grabbed my head as if to baptize me
"Come to Jesus and receive thy bounty"
As fulfilling as his bread
More intoxicating than the wine
Yet this nectar was not of the scriptures, or was it?

Her hips moved in evangelical rhythms
We sought salvation amongst the freed
"My body pines for you
Like a dry, weary land without water.
So I gaze on you in the sanctuary
to see your strength and your glory." Psalm 63: 1-2

She gripped cool granite to brace herself
I, the fullness of her hips

I was throbbing
She was drenched and she took me in that sacred place
"Open the gates of victory; I will enter and thank the LORD."
Psalm 118

I'm coming she moaned or was she testifying?
Her final offering was a tidal wave
I could hear it kiss the mound below us
"A generous person will be enriched, and one who gives water will get water." Proverbs 11:25

She said after
I could see my body leave me and float amongst them

Did they come for her?
As she did for me
