Image for the poem My Companion

My Companion

He sits in the darkest corner of my mind
watching the waves crash into the rocky shore
guarding the cemetery of my soul that lies above the sea of dead dreams
I feel him crawling inside me
eating away every precious memory
until the tears fall through my fingertips like ashes
He whispers no one can hurt you now

I have named him loneliness
