Sweet Deception
in my dream last night
you needed me
you kissed me
and said everything was okay
it was beautiful and pure
and we were together again
I said - you know you're killing me
please say this is real and true
so real - I can taste your lips
but now...
it's just another morning

A Moment Between Words
A odd thing happened yesterday that I'm hesitant to write about. It left me with mixed feelings that I'm not entirely comfortable with. But, I think it needs telling.
My whole day was occupied by setting up and selling my stuff at a garage sale. It was a hot day and things were rather slow. I had time to contemplate the act of selling my worldly possessions to strangers, and that planted a seed for a poem I posted here later in the day.
Well, that's the prelude. I guess I'll word my way up to the odd occurrence. Late in the day I saw a passenger van stop out front....

garage sale
sweltering hot summer day
with too much time to think
selling off the burden of my life
trading bits and pieces and memories for cash
this is not a voluntary uncluttering
it's a forced march into the desert
the vultures are picking at my bones
eating my soul - two bites for a dollar

Downy Woodpecker
Oh no...
I know that sound
a small thud
and the dull ringing tone
of a plate glass window
poor bird.
I walk to the window
to confirm my fear
yes, so sad
it's stunned
still some movement.
Please shake it off
go fly away
and live the rest
of your short life
please do not suffer.
I can't watch
must leave
will come back shortly
and hope for the best
please be okay.
Oh my
not dead yet
wings are still and flat
eyes blinking
does not look good.
Now it's sitting up...
I know that sound

Little Thieves
Mind the kibble,
lock it up tight.
Unseen mouses
work through the night.
Crunchy nuggets
left in a bowl.
Are carried away,
that is the goal.
Stashed in old shoes
and behind books.
Tucked under cushions,
they're little crooks.
No wonder the dog
named Cleo's so lean.
The mice are stealing
her canine cuisine.
lock it up tight.
