GROWS
Cross rose
Prices rose
People rose
Hunger rose
Rose and set
Rose on walls
Rose from dirt
Rose still green
Rose up singing
Thorns and rose
Their voices rose
Rose like a corpse
Rose into a scream
Rose cheeks throats
Gutters red with rose
Gutters bled with rose
Rose higher and higher
Rose red and roses blew
Arose from a war of rose
Rose as violet as violence
Rose on love rose on anger
Rose again as morning rose
Rose to gods from monsters
Girls placards...

FATHER
This is the green of great father’s
Sheep and geese and the pond
Floods with late winters’ rains;
Rains run rivulets of tears
On my mother’s face, a lilac light
That comes as the white moon softly come.
And this is the grave of my father’s
Bones and skull and his words
Shape my thoughts as I scream.
Scream for you, for you to hear
Wind blows like woeful bugle blew
Through trees, his foot prints the muddy path home.
This wake, the avenue of my father’s ash,
Yew, oak, elm that grew his Spring buds.
Birds spring,...

VIEW
Last plane to Moldova:
Eastern view clouds over Ukraine;
Western pane, sun sets.

TRUE
your sword seeks an enemy
rest by this tree instead
for your enemy
if you but knew lives inside your head
you’ve fallen down and your crown
like friends is lost and gone
but that crown
if you but knew was ne’er as gold as sun
your shield fields another’s blow
howls with ice and sleet
but that blow
if you but knew blew you to your feet
you’re naked now and all alone
nothing with nought but you
and that alone
if you but knew was all that was ever true
rest by this tree instead
for your enemy
if you but knew lives inside your head
you’ve fallen down and your crown
like friends is lost and gone
but that crown
if you but knew was ne’er as gold as sun
your shield fields another’s blow
howls with ice and sleet
but that blow
if you but knew blew you to your feet

nothing with nought but you
and that alone

SEAMLESS
Flag blowing freely within your arms,
As free as a sloop upon the sea.
Naked within your sheets,
With only your love to clothe me.
Lightly cast and lightly held
With starlight to guide our path.
And a warm heart, a held hand
Till earth be left at last.
Upon eagle wing, my angel wing,
Floating freely upon a feather,
Castaways upon seamless time,
So we float on forever.

Lightly cast and lightly held

OTIS
A stowaway in the place of your berth
Not worth the price of a hearse.
Strange fruit deep in the earth,
In the year of my birth.
Straw dogs barking orders .
A soul drawn from muddy waters.
Your bones rest at your farm in Georgia.
Iced lyrics, frozen in December waters.
Your farm’s a home far from harm.
Was anointed by a king, a doctor’s cure,
To ensure justice just is and what he orders
Tell waters calm and let his love endure.
Sometimes everything seems the same
But life can be a flight on a different plane ...
Not worth the price of a hearse.
Strange fruit deep in the earth,
In the year of my birth.
Straw dogs barking orders .
A soul drawn from muddy waters.

POPPY
Sweetness without restraint
Paint red the blowing flowers
Hours stretched back to years
Fears became a mortal toil
Soil of war a feat of souls
Soles of feet on poppy fields
(*runner-up in Magdalena's twisted cheery names competition)

FAITH
Faithful come, succumb and crumble
A shadow on a mirror on a puddle
A pungent remnant of this perfumed tune
As I sing a song to me
Fragile chords bind to ford a stream
Of failed reflection yet we dream
To seek to find and speak of a love eternal
As I sing a song to you
Here a harpies harp jars a fallen glass
Hold the line and let time pass
Hold each other and grasp a love eternal
As I sing a song to us
A shadow on a mirror on a puddle
A pungent remnant of this perfumed tune
As I sing a song to me
Fragile chords bind to ford a stream
Of failed reflection yet we dream
To seek to find and speak of a love eternal
As I sing a song to you

PIRATES
Benny Horngold’s off to sea
His flowing locks blowing free
When he’s back he’ll happy be
Bonnie Benny Horngold
Once we were pirates and sung
The sea sore of the siren's song
Of broken oars of hopeless soaks
A cape of whores and rummy jacks
A see saw from paw to claw
Short o’ breath on the sugar cane
A yo ho ho won't take the strain
Hot water, rain cold then back again
Our last boat has left the shore
And a crack shack ain't a grain store
The spoils spoilt and run short
A short run a sad gloat...

CHARITY
Give Charity
Without duality
Give secretly
Not strategically
Give kindly
Not blindly
Give freely
And mercifully
Give Compassion
Without ration
Nice words indeed.
But not as nice
As hot, steamed rice
Without duality
Give secretly
Not strategically
Give kindly
Not blindly
Give freely
And mercifully
Give Compassion
Without ration
Nice words indeed.
But not as nice
As hot, steamed rice

FRIENDLY
Post rush hour Baker Street Station
Bench beneath the underground sign
Looking through the window Eastward
I could see you in the carriage Westward
Your dead son was my brother-in-arms
Standing Stag 4A.M. Brecon Beacon
SUSAT sights frozen snow
When the cross bolt safety is off
The fire selector lever of the SA80
Allows semi and full automatic fire
You sneezed and breathed
And under my breath
I said “Bless you”.
