a life of broken pride

forced down the throat
to mute the cry
of doves

OBSERVATIONAL POEM

emptiness
the hollow of a gaping hole
the echo of an empty soul
the hunger of an empty life
where destitutions rife
a life tangeantial
inconsequential
and at no time reverential
no time to do what's most essential
no time to live
or love
fill the hole with plastic dreams
shiny things and transient gleams
that flicker catch a seasoned eye
and sell your soul an empty lie
fill the hole with feel good times
leave no gaps for thoughts of crimes
leave no gaps to contemplate
what you're eating off of this plate...

a bloody footnote
you have a choice
you have no choice
you have a voice
you have no voice
this is democracy
indirect
intangeable
this is freedom
the freedom to do as you're told
the freedom to suffer
the freedom to die
this is the here and now
this is the past
this is the future
this is a desolate existance
or futile resistance
this is passing the time
until history is history
and we can breath again.

suddenly
an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth
well we'd all be gummy and blind
so although you shat upon my heart
i'm trying not to mind
i'm trying hard to carry on
to keep my head up high
still every day i think of you
and all i do is sigh
i'm trying hard to carry on
i'm trying not to cry
i'm trying to excuse you
for feeding me a lie
i'm trying to be the big man
who leaves troubles well behind
but thinking of what you've done to me
i fear i'll lose my mind
i thought you were my soulmate
i thought you were...
