yeah so ok he left me
and I have to admit
I didn’t see it coming
what with me doing all the cleaning
and cooking
and running the business that keeps the roof over our heads
and being his lover
and keeper
and nurse for his bouts of man-flue
and putting up with his drunken snoring
once he’s finally shut up with all the talk about sailing
and fucking poetry
like he’s lecturing someone who just discovered the shit
which is not me

God and his f**kwits
why is it that religion and illiteracy seem to go hand in hand?
almost always spouted by some young man
who hasn’t lived long enough
or travelled wide enough
to know
that what he knows
aint knowledge
not like the stuff they teach in college
but merely a cultural expectation
which, if he was born under the flag another nation
would have led him to feed off the tit of some other religion
and he’d have oh-so-reverently believed that shit
as hard as the shit he thinks he ‘knows’ now
but somehow...

to watch ants
their brief existence
led around by pheromones
and mindless duty
to something they were born into
unquestioning belief
in the greater good
knowing their place
and pulling their weight
simple ideas
of a life lived
to pre-ordained destiny

barely mourned death
measured only
by how well they did
for everyone else
their position quickly filled
