POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
eleven seventy
when I dissolve on the second rung
out from the sun
wave a refrigerator magnet over the debris
and send the conductive sediment
in a manilla envelope
back home to mom
tell her i'm sorry, and
make sure to dampen it
so it doesn't combust
upon reentry
regard all of this as a missle, my love
pay no attention to terms like billions
even as years, for we are mere tendrils
riding along the edge
inventing and defying time
wrap my last words in aluminum foil
and make sure mom gets...

I am
give it a name and it's gone
let's just assume love
is what our outermost nerve endings
are responding to
and let's move on
like the universe does
look back with me
and see how everything there
is folded in the way we were
(how we will be again)
but this thin line we ride to transparency
feels alot like the stuff forever's made of
and it won't last long enough
to radiate back towards language
so share with me this reflection of love
(call it light if we must) ...

seasonal attire
June's heart of gold schleps the box of xmas lights from out of the attic.
Marbled Orb Weavers prey on over excited animations of atmosphere
spinning adhesive silver around the first cell divisions of space.
Crickets rub lusts rhythm between legs as lovers share evening's mead.
One inch over this porch is where butterflies ferry summer's syllables into the afterlife.

speak easy
eyes open to a skyline of tension
the big sort, bordered on each side
by angst, bliss, delusion, and all-out
annihilation. stillness,
with the kinetic energy of a kind of chaos
that makes and breaks everything at once.
I know that this is my last day to live
because the fork of her tongue leapt up
from the inside of my lowest intestines
to the trap door of fossilized fiber optics
laid in the hardened amber of laughter-cracked ...

goat face freckles
Last weekend I attended, "Jam on the River",
a concert in my home town held Memorial Day weekend.
A semi-popular event, something to usher in summer.
The line up had some favorites;
bands that create the kind of space
that makes me want to stake claim
and get the deep digging done.
Big man's got more moves than Rerun, and
I was simply due to shake out my bones.

the bell always rings but was never struck
he always fought so hard against the source;
as is the merit of the manifestation,
but now she whispers to him pet names
leaving intimate traces of her sonar signature
she assures him of his specific set of hands;
the hole in the right thumb, the nails bit
to painful conclusions across each digit,
in the music that moves his worn fingers
to wrap around dayglo gilded eggshells
and mold them into impossible lifespans
every one more interested in their progeny
than their own maturity
an adorned silence...

esoteric is okay when the inner circle's reduced to one
August will be born on the bus
driven by the second third
the last railroad spike counted by the first
staking down where the western roads
find their round
springs early song carries summers hum
sixty miles up the old steel road
less than three months
and daddy's in the drunk tank
drying out towards thorough
nothing's owned young man
borrow in blessing
may you expand to the skin
of the ley lines of life
and feel out further still

the title is the lasso not what's tethered
now through the most of May
and an already gorgeous spring
has increasingly higher proportions
following the worst winter on record
back are the dangerous days
the ones that leave lovers exposed
like earthworms following fresh rain
and the artists are all well fed
the toxicity in language has exceeded its half-life
things might actually happen
it has all caught up
and we are on the other side
physics is the cousin of spiritual thought
and their kids got married
let's scrap the words that have tacked radioactive...

my cap
I have been wearing my cap for about ten years.
Call it a cap instead of a hat
because I worked at an embroidery shop when i got it.
Worked for a man named Bill.
Seventy something, fourth in a line of crackers proper.
Bill knew that cordage, knots, and their know how
stemmed back to the original days of the noble guilds.
Knowing the correct phrasing was important to him.
Thread instead of string and so on.
It was a low paying gig
but my interest in any kind of "straight" life was even lower.
Worked there a few months,...

heavy meddle
literal translations are incapacitated by nuance
a mercurial film filtering forever inward
outwards debris collected as communication
closest to the bristles wins
without winding around an isolated strand
where quicksilver sand asphyxiates singularity
but must stand each on end, sneaking past
spread thinner than metallic spraypaint bubbles
rusting out on the bumper of a Mack truck
microscopic iron filings embedding themselves
into the skin of the space before the cement
compassionate intuition convoys the audio
as the...

Must be May
it must be May
everything's become malleable again
my summer on, through August
is an electrified peyote button stitch
too ecstatic in happening to be held
it is May, nine thirty in the morning
on its fourth day
I didn't know I still believed in ecstasy
hadn't the foggiest notion
that it could be exponentially expanded
through patience
this last winter was one of the worst on record
I made it through in a one foot in front of the other sorta way
an amazingly big...

Archimedes' shrubbery
Finally fitting in.
I'm just like every other yutz
stuffing leaves into brown bags
bright'n-early on a sunday morning
getting dirty on my days off.
Finally feeling it.
There's something innate about tilling soil
that makes the sun scrape across the sky
in a more seamless way.
Going to grow some of the stuff we eat
at least act like I'm alive.
Only prior experience was propagating certain green plants
in my bedroom closet as a kid, and same as that flowers aroma
reunites a...
