Vision in a Meteor Shower
Years ago
I was twelve or so
Staring out my bedroom window
Fascinated by the sight
Red darts - flashing light,
I could not get much sleep that night.
A meteor shower raged outside
But there was something else
That caught my eye -
Through the tall trees I spotted
Two blazing red planets, sharing a single ring.
Thinking it a trick of light
I shut my eyes and held them tight.
But when I looked back to the sky
There it was, still shining bright.

Rainy Day Fantasy
When it rains,
like the dust and bones I am
each part of me dissolves.
I imagine I am melting,
and as I sink into the earth
I caress each root and insect.
As the water pulls me down,
I'll keep running if I have to;
deep into the dirt.

Something Real
I guess I psyched myself too much.
It was so out of character.
Forcing everyone to lunge forward
Or else they smirked and checked their phones.
Did I alone understand your stumbling words?
(It seemed as if they were never rehearsed.)
It could have been me up on that stage
Enraged, and everyone else was to blame.
Through it all I could only think
I hope to god she has eaten today
No,
That's a lie.
I needed you to stand up straight.
When you gave the last phrase
And shifted back to your...

plead for a second chance
I dream of Washington
but I know it is you
A friendly craze
so strange and new
I try to speak up
but draw a blank
Please don't dismiss it all
as some kind of prank
Though I slip up
and crash and burn
I have to try
and you can help me learn

My Dreams
My Dreams
They seam
Like Deja Vu
The more
They come
They leave
Me blue
The more
I yearn
For deeper sleep
The more
They come
The realer still
A world
So real
A deeper hue
Each night
With the closing
Of each eye
I turn the table
Role the die
The world
Where I land
Though strange
Is not new

The Second Poem
The weight of you on my lap
Was no weight at all.
In slumber you sank in,
As I was washed with light.
White light swallowed city clang
And I swear the air around us sang
With the serenade of that city clang.
I awoke when it happened again.
And there we were still laying down
When I wrote a second poem for the one I love.

Instructions
Cremate my body to hide the scars from God.
Pick a day when it rains enough to soak the earth, but isn't hard enough that you can't stand it.
Sprinkle my ashes over a luscious patch of grass.
Somewhere in the botanic gardens perhaps?
My parents were married there.
Make sure that it rains all day, into the night.
Become as drenched as me, as you watch my ashes dissolve into the earth.
Tell me your secrets. I will be there. I will listen.
I will kiss you for every raindrop that falls upon your body.
Each transgression will melt and...

Am I Dead Yet?
Everything I read
Everything I see
Screams at me
It's telling me
Just end it all, throw in the towel.
I should have perished long ago.
Friends come and go,
Family I take or leave,
Dead poets call to me,
Misery loves company.
Those who made the choice
seem fearless to me.
They say
"There's no pain"
"I did my time"
"I made my mark"
Life was a prison and they got out with "proscribed" behavior.
Then there's the media
Television, movies, radio, newspapers,...

Shadows
Your profile,
a slinking mirage in the night.
A faceless shadow of
all you think is right.
There was nothing in your eyes.
Nothing in your eyes
that made me want to stay
that night.

The First Poem
Though I am wrapped around you,
With you,
As you drift in
and around
sleep,
That fickle maiden steals you up,
Yet will have nothing to do with me.
I am left alone with my thoughts.
Alone with the street sounds,
leaking through the blinds.
We stay reluctant to acknowledge the daylight
as it beckons on the other side.

Chi City
Chi City
It seems too easy
You show a different face each day
Think anyone else would forget it
Take comfort in the atmosphere
Air that makes your head clear
Sounds that blur your vision
Make you wonder how you got here
Chi City
I’m bound to you by a thread
My flesh is an extension
Of your tension and your every Breath

A Memory of Home
the smell of Brooklyn in the rain
laundry steam lifting in the breeze
then falling to earth
to play with the leaves
sipping strong coffee, I indulge in the view
a shower capable of taking away pain
and it seems as real as ever
because I am alone again
