My Death (Post Prequel)
I heard old friends calling me and loved ones whispered my name.
I was held in a soothing light but it exposed my shame.
I heard those voices changing to screams and then I suddenly fell,
Then I heard crying ahead and knew I was falling to Hell.
I saw faces from my past and the people I’ve robbed of life,
with all the drama, and all my sins laced with hate and strife.
I screamed aloud into the dark that I’d do it all again.
I did what I did with few regrets from the present to way back then.
I did what I had to do and succeeded with a little luck....

My Death (The Prequel)
I never heard the round that day that slammed into my chest.
I felt the icy pain take hold as it totally missed my vest.
Slapped right down upon the rocks as I rolled up off my side.
I couldn't get up off that field no matter how hard I tried.
I feel the blood loss draining me, seconds before I die.
The scent of cordite lingered about as I looked up in the sky.
Lazy clouds dot my picture, drifting in a cobalt blue,
my armor and gear weighed me down as I appreciated the view. ...

I’d lead your minions throughout the Earth, seeking the souls to reap.
I’d lead your demons throughout the land for those souls you want to keep.
I’d do your bidding on this Earth where God has abandoned the land.
I’d harvest the souls on this world where His holy name is banned.
I’d command the Unholy minions about as we cause suffering and pain.
I’d commit your armies into the fight and strengthen your domain.

I felt your icy fingers upon my soul as you gazed into my eye.
I heard your demons beckoning as you lifted up your Scythe.
You called my name within your list as you wrung your hands in glee.
You beckoned my soul to heed your call but you won’t set me free.
I’ve earned a special place in your realm of suffering and pain.

I saw you in my dreams last night and you were smiling at me.
It’s the time when my mind’s at rest and when I feel serene.
No matter what you do in them, no matter what you say,
I cherish this most of all when I’m in night-time play.
It’s the little things about you that I miss most of all.

Shadows In Light
The blades were thumping overhead. I scan from the Helo’s side.
I feel the rush of wind upon my face and hear the rotor whine.
Weapons charged and ready, night vision on my head.
We bring the Zombie Apocalypse. We are the Walking Dead.
I fast roped onto the site and let go the asbestos sleeve,
I ranged walked towards the area and flipped up NVG’s.
I checked comms with my team as we filed up in the night.
We stacked along an entrance way and prepared for a fight.

Shadow Warriors
(Submitted for "Intelligence Agency Blues" Competition)

As the days turn into months and months into years,
I do my job with many obvious fears.
From Taliban fighters and insurgents in Iraq,
I tell few truths and report simple facts.
I first started at Benning learning basic Infantry,
Listening to the mantra of “Be All That You Can Be”.
As the years moved forward my skills began to grow.

Over Twenty Five Years
I was cleaning my rifle, pistols and my gear;
these were my tools for the past few years.
Now the bores are shiny and bright,
And I brush the sand off those old battle sights.
My webbing was worn and smelled of sweat.
Many hours were logged wearing that vest.
My Ceramic plate armor was flaking away.
I remember it saving me on so many days.
Much like a sword, these tools were my soul,
with an appetite for destruction, my belly is full.
I've seen the world through my mercenary eye
and see the things that would make men cry.

Death Ode to an iPod
Poor little iPod. Faithful servant; you finally died.
No tunes to jam by or any music for the ride.
Sixty gigs of memory, you had a lot of stuff.
You traveled the world with me to places generally rough.
You kept me company in ole' Douchebagistan,
as I charged you with solar cells and cooled you down with fans.
