Genophobia
Hands together,
fingers intertwined.
Some red lipstick
and just a dash of white wine.
Candles still lit from dinner
and family photos out of sight,
it's been months that we've been preparing for this night.
Things get interesting quickly,
your passion burning like an open, roaring flame.
You know so much about this
yet I still have a lot of ground to gain.
Your fingers grace my shoulders
as you kiss my neck from behind.
My heart starts pounding as I quickly blurt out
"I'm too tired now,
can we not do this tonight?"...

Infinite Elation
Two grown women
and lots of playground equipment.
Never did I think we would
one day fit that description.
Sun, some sand, sticky sugar coating our hands;
I really felt like I was a kid again.
We made castles in the sand,
fed some seagulls a couple of french fries by hand
and you even got a local band to play
our song.
I was honestly so happy all day long.
You even taught me how to make a pinwheel
except this time I didn't cheat and use hot glue.
We walked around town for a bit,
took in the sights, the sounds.
Then we went...

Afterglow
I... cried today.
For the first time,
after two years and fifty seven days,
I finally accepted the fact that it was okay;
okay to let tears spill from my eyes and run down my face.
Although, I don't understand why
or even know what made me cry,
the way your eyes
looked down on me
with such sympathy
made my heart skip a beat.
Last night I felt so unsure about everything.
Today was different, though.

there was no barrier in between;
no hidden meaning yet to been seen,
no exterior or image to keep.

Broken Open
Tonight, it finally happened.
You finally got to me.
You saw me start to slip
and let me fall
deep into myself.
You let me think about it all
and didn't stop me when I started to say too much.
Every single secret,
the reasoning behind each scar,
the explanation behind each action;
you now know it all.
And I can't help but feel
so naked.
I feel so vulnerable,
transparent.
You sleep next to me so soundly,
satisfied with your bounty of information.
Your arms have been around me a thousand times
and yet they've...

Forevermore
Your fingers
so delicately trace the faded marks
left on my skin.
Marks that I once made
with razor blades.
Hatred raged within me,
mostly for myself.
Never did I ever think
that anybody else
would ever truly love me.
I lived in my own private hell.
I put up walls, barricaded myself.
I became a prisoner in my own body,
my own shell.
I didn't want to ever come out.
You kiss my neck so gently
where the noose once was.
I can still remember the feeling,
the exquisite horror of realizing
that I didn't die...

Breezy
I can taste the electricity in the air.
Wind moves through my hair
but doesn't stop.
Wind is odd.
It adapts to the solids in its path
and is always ready and willing to change.
It even adapts to the changes
other humans make.

Focus
Step out of your comfort zone
and onto the rope.
Leave the safety of the ledge behind
and cling onto any illusion of hope
because the only thing below you is air.
If you slip and fail here,
there's no safety harness
or net.
You'll simply be dead,
no questions asked.
Staying calm and in the moment
is any unharnessed tightrope walker's goal.
If you lose your balance
or foothold,
you're going to fall.
That's a fact.
Similar to life,
there's little room for error.
You almost literally walk the razor's edge...
and onto the rope.

and cling onto any illusion of hope
because the only thing below you is air.
