POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
For the protection of the public, the last guy burned the map.
Movin' on ain't easy
He likes my cooking
but doesn't have a clue
where I've been.
He loves making love to me
but doesn't know how good I feel,
just being his Thursday, piece of ass.
He treats me with respect
but doesn't know what it's like when
I'm crazy enough about him
to break every last dish in his cupboard.
He says he wants to marry me but
doesn't know the infatuation it takes
to put a baby in me.
He cares about me
but doesn't know the luxury
of me lying to PD,
to spare him 10
but risk me, 5.
We...

Missin' Nothin'
I remember the cold concrete beneath us.
The memory still cements us.
Early mornings with nothing to smile for,
never being paid above a table.
All I had to speak of
was covering you up,
covered in dirt n' oil.
I still hear me whispering,
"don't let me go"...
hoping no one hears me,
beggin' you to keep me safe
but only when we were alone.
Cigarettes and Love.
Whisky in plastic bottles.
I had nothing else to my name ...

everything but....
When you're in pain, I feel my entire being, bleed. When I'm the one who disappoints you, it burns like watching Hitler kiss a German child. You say, you "love me" and I ponder for a brief moment, "I am that important?" When you sleep, I sleep. I have survived The Gauntlet of life, 30 years and as I'm left standing, I have you to show for it. I don't deserve you, darling son. You carry me every day and I only carried you, nine months. You brought me an entire world, just because I brought you into this one. How, with your first breath did you give me something worth living for and...

Exist
No one ever told me that love was less of a fairy tale and more of a constant withdrawal from a substance that spawned what addiction is.
No one ever told me that losing yourself to unnerving obsession was par for the course, till Hell, do us part.
No one ever told me that the world would start to appear terrifying from our lips initial encounter because for the first time, I was made finite.
...but no one ever told me because, before you and I, those words merely, had not existed.

It Can Be Ok
It hurts me to see you fight with yourself.
You are ok. You are ok.
I will say it again because, you are ok.
I mourn for you and all you've seen,
for what you'll never find the words to say.
You don't know the luxury
of losing your composure.
You don't know the bliss,
of being the class clown
who gets laughed at
but only because you,
yourself, command it.
You don't know the pleasure
of no stipulations or no critique.
Accept my love.

Modesty
Everything in front of me is still.
The foreground is:
warm, loud and you.
You show me the pleasure
of all that is homeostatic.
I am nestled in your being/
a bio-dome of lovely creation.
In this, only we, exist,
only you exist.
From a modest place I say,
"This is what love looks like"

Cheated By Life
The sweet faced girl
approached her sister,
"I come to you with a message:
I know you fuck and love him.
I know he does the same.
I'd just assume kill you
and my cheating husband."
Before she pulls the trigger
pressed to her lips,
She whispers through her tears,
"Instead, I'll kill the messenger. "

Fire Cracker (written for the Independence comp.)
I don't need you to tell me I'm pretty.
I have a mirror that peers into the very fiber of my being.
I don't need your approval for intellect.
I've got Ernest and Cormac to keep me sharp.
I don't need you to tell me I'm crazy.
I'm delighted in my loose grip on your reality.
I don't need the air you breath,
when there's one thousand an one lives to go.
I don't need your co-dependence, ...

Incarnate
I meet you each lifetime,
I ponder with gentle curiosity.
I bet we were a match
born in purgatory.
I suspect a kind of soul mates.
Together,
we probably wrote
great tragedies.
Inspiring with
your inspiration,
I imagine,
we were perfect.

World Peace
She was; on the beach,
on Molly, on him.
She teased
that he looked like
a Greek Deity/ Rolling Stone
hybrid.
He believed
in her sweetness
in such a way
that he wondered
if she wasn't the answer
to world peace.
She looked up from
his thigh, her pillow,
enchantedly saying,
"If we ever fall in love,
I hope it feels precisely
like this."
He smiles at her notion
and she smiles at his smile.
Somewhere, The Gods,
they smile at the both of them.
