I Am The Virus
(Written for the "Ebola" competition)
(To The Tune of the Beatles’ “Come Together”)
Here comes the doctor,
He’s got rosy-rashes
He’s got fever-flashes
He’s gone, isolation
From the Congo-Nation
He says: “I know who, did this to me;
If I don’t survive this,
Then in death I am free.”
I’m the virus, I’m hiding,
I’ll make you bleed.
Stronghold the masses
Because, I’m Ebola
Just like, Rocky Balboa
I’m a deadly-dealer—
Well now, how ‘ya feelin’?
I say: “I know you, you won’t...

The Bus People
(Written for Grace's "Strange Encounters" competition)
The Bus People
Well-trod path, forks in the woods—
Which to take?
Which to take?
Choose one, yes, perhaps you should—
Run away,
Run away.
Lure too great, the birds don’t sing—
They know,
They know.
Air doesn’t move, no sound, nothing—
Don’t go…
Don’t go…
Deeper now, in you go, on your way—
What do you feel?
What do you feel?
Drawn in, they see your soul turn gray—
They aren’t real,
They aren’t real,
Yes they...

Unstoppable Joan
The stage has been swept—
Ticker-tape and dust from a show, long-run.
She turns off the light switch
And closes the stage door behind her;
“Can we talk?”
No, she’s said all there is to say,
And a wistful smile remains on her lips
As she steps into the new.
“She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
Strength and honour are her clothing and she shall rejoice in time to come.”
Proverbs 31: 22 & 25
And in an instant,
She becomes the silk and purple
Bathed in the starlight that shone on her ...

Whispers In Finnish
(Written for Miki's "Something Worth Writing" competition)
Bieber-fever reigns supreme
And Kim can’t decide what color to paint her nails.
Mother Hell has opened her dress
And a journalist is beheaded.
”Herra, anna meille anteeksi kaikki”
The birthday parties go on
And the sun continues to rise.
The Rider on the Black Horse swings his sickle
And a journalist is beheaded.
”Herra, anna meille anteeksi kaikki”
Babies are born
And every mall has a sale
While the politicians are making their own rules

Letters To Livia: Escaping Black Holes
(Written for Evan's "Black Holes" competition)
“Let the stars of the twilight thereof be dark; let it look for light, but have none; neither let it see the dawning of the day” Job 3:9
Science would have us believe that a black hole is what’s left of a star when it collapses and dies. It would be akin to a pothole along the road of space, which like when driving a car on our roads down here on Earth, you sometimes don’t see until you actually hit it, invisible until it’s too late, and you’ve already fallen in, where some amount of damage will occur. But what is...

I'll-Let-It-Out-Later-When-No-One's-Looking
(Written for Gardenlover's "Mini Limericks" competition)
Can't focus on much, I'm afraid to say
My daughter is packing for college today.
Boxes loaded, from bedding to shirts--
Another example of life's cruel hurts;
Now floodgates of tears will wash me away.

All’s Fair In Unfairness
(Written for Atakti's "My Unfair Lady" competition)
What is “fair”?
Is it everything and nothing,
In principle,
Or perhaps only a term,
A beauty descriptor,
Or a county carnival?
Describe for me how fair it is,
When babies are returned to God at birth,
Damaged in transit.
Is it fair that those who are commissioned to bring laughter,
Leave this world by their own hand
In a moment of despair?
Is it fair when some get away with everything
No matter how hard the rest of us work to remain in good standing?
Is...

Behind The Smile
(For Robin Williams, to the tune of “Hold On” by Kansas)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xikm2YS_7xM
Look through the veil hiding your world, what do you see?
Did the road always bring you to where you thought you should be?
The rivers are winding and flow with despair,
And behind your smile, what was it, led you to there?
Flown on,
The Robin’s flown on
With the other birds of Spring,
To the Summer where they sing,
They’ve flown on.
The laughter that rode on the wind, was what your gift gave,
But did it always...

My Drugs Are Better Than Your Drugs.....
(Written for the "Drug of Enlightenment" competition)
Adriamycin, blushed like blood
Made my pee turn red;
A relationship of hate and love,
Without it, I would be dead.
Cytoxin made my hair fall out
And ignored my emotional pain,
For that was what my tears were about--
My tresses, down the drain.
Taxol was the drying one,
That shrivelled me to a corpse.
My nails fell off, it wasn't fun,
But everything grew back, of course.
Tamoxifen, for five years when
The others were all through.
Its damage, I...
