POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
A young person who sometimes has lots of ideas.
Night Out
I missed the last train
when I stopped to think.
It could have rained but never did.
Sleep on a bench
finished the night.
when I stopped to think.
It could have rained but never did.
Sleep on a bench
finished the night.

Mental Gymnastics
Bend your mind a little,
loosen up your lungs;
stretch out on the sofa-bed
and flip the TV off.

Ex-Cop
I used to be a cop;
prowling the Mardi Gras
tumbleweed of small town Louisiana,
stopping every so often with my partner
for a large double-double and a sprinkle donut.

Curiosity
Magnifying glass in hand,
the child basks in the black heat
of his driveways asphalt, enamoured
by the instinctual sophistication of the
ant colony at his feet.

In a Suit
Teachers train you to forget,
bosses think they’re
heaven sent,
and family pressures
dress you down in brand names.
In a suit
and on the lamb,
from contracts written
in their hand,
a school, a job, a life
you can’t escape from.
Expecting dreams
to fade in time,
expounding you
to fall in line,
and kill the voice
that makes your mind
your own.
In a suit
and out of hope,
I kill my senses just to cope
with senseless streams
of un-burnt smoke ...

I Don't Care
A laugh erupts atop the stair.
Pink velvet pulse
beyond compare,
dress daylight's breath
in cashmere flare
silk smooth.
The smile spreads
throughout the coach.
Weaves blinding threads
to frowning hosts
asleep.

Sleep
Everyone’s an artist,
snug inside their sheets.
Awakened by our sleeping minds,
subconscious finds its feet.
Dancing like a child’s balloon
caught in a gust of wind,
precision chaos in the night
unfolds itself within.
Fragmented dreams
when you were young
linger to this day.
Inside the mind
grand paintings hung,
forgotten trials saved.
snug inside their sheets.
Awakened by our sleeping minds,
subconscious finds its feet.
Dancing like a child’s balloon
caught in a gust of wind,
precision chaos in the night
unfolds itself within.
Fragmented dreams
when you were young
linger to this day.
Inside the mind
grand paintings hung,
forgotten trials saved.

Nothing Matters
Felt a snowflake
melt in front of
universal mind.
Watched the day break
dusk defy your
summer dreams in kind.
Filtered heartthrob
without sunrise,
everything’s okay.
Nothing matters
just keep moving,
night might turn to day.
melt in front of
universal mind.
Watched the day break
dusk defy your
summer dreams in kind.
Filtered heartthrob
without sunrise,
everything’s okay.
Nothing matters
just keep moving,
night might turn to day.

Relationships
Harbouring
relationships
upon the ocean
floor.
Beneath the frothing,
rolling waves
that pound my broken
core.
Polluted waters
sifting pain,
tear the hulls
apart.
Coursing wildly
through my veins,
leaves just a sunken
heart.

Northern Stillness
Well north of the bustling city
before the crackle of night's winter fires
hard hats, black backs and frozen fingers
shiver starkly in time with their iron picks
sharp strikes upon the icy earth,
shattering the frozen northern stillness.
