POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
My outlook reflects my writing; make haste but don't hurry. I don't think of myself as a poet. That claim does little for me. I like to think I am working on obtaining that title.
The Songbirds (Women Who Sang!)
Previously writing about guitar players,
the male crooners and their vocal delights
I felt that a look at some females
would be only right
A contralto would break down barriers
when segregation was the norm
Marian Anderson was set to sing before an integrated audience
but the Daughters of the American Revolution raised such a storm
FDR and Eleanor become involved and it finally came to be
Marian singing at Lincoln's Memorial those walls came crashing down
precursor to the Civil Rights drive

Time Can Reduce It All
These are the days when human souls are severely challenged
when the crossroads provide different paths
here in the States we knocked down a door
in 2008 added some color to the White House
But the ethnic diversity hasn't been accompanied
by a diversity of thought
The concentration of wealth has further eroded bonds
haves failing to see their prosperity tied to those without
while those dealing with economic insecurity
distrust the wealthy and organizations that benefit them
ignorant or uncaring to that universal truth
that what happens to...

Woodstock's Wonder
Forty-five years ago today the young people rocked the house
astonished people with their numbers and civility
in a decade racked by bloodshed and distrust of organized movements
four hundred thousand people
enjoyed music and each other
Youth weren't beating each other up
in the streets or anywhere else
"People all over the world
joined hands
started a love train, love train
people all over the world
joined hands
started a love train, love train"
Started as a money making adventure
on the acres of Max Yasgur...

Center For Disease Control....Please!
Try to build a housing project too close
and watch neighbors go ballistic
but over there in the ghetto
oh baby, build and build
a power plant and while you are at it,
turn the old school in to private prison
keep this domicile pristine
the poisons and the "dregs" of society
send them OVER THERE
Love the parks and the trails
let the doggies roam free
while energy companies knock off tops of mountains
dispose of wastes in streams and rivers next to those "lessers"
with no lawyers or riverkeepers group to intervene ...

Where The Wind Blows, Answers To Be Found?
Dad, can I give that man a smile?"
son asks his father as they walk
the park is filled with people
and yet the man feels alone
Wall street investors playing hard and fast with rules
bankrupted his retirement
while heads that are dead in D.C. raid Social Security
Child with a lollipop on the bus states
"Auntie, that little girl needs this more then me"
noticing the two sitting across
the little girl no more then 6 looking petrified
realizing that the woman
sitting next to her who has played the role of mom
because of...

Going To L.A. and Cumming For Play
Downtown in a large metropolis
there is the one vehicle to seek
what is to be done
not for the timid or meek
Escorted to a glass experience
the elevator through which one can see
we'll combine elegance with naughty
how filled with pleasure it will be
Wear something not too complicated
a quick exit from the chute when done
hopefully security is not a problem
especially if we are too drained to run
Other elevator riders will be dumbstruck
when they see us fully engaged
have nothing in common...

Faith Of The Father
Big fire, on top of the hill
A worthless gesture and last farewell
Tears from your mother, from the pits of her soul
Look at your father, see his blood run cold"
When the suns recesses
Andromeda sees your plight
steering soundly the ship
the safe passage the birthright
"Tears, tears at the waters edge
hey, little sister give us laughter instead
tears for the teacher, from the eyes, for her soul
this restless spirit takes a long way back home"
All that is conscious and all that will be
transcends emotions and...

Not A Title For Me
I am not a practitioner of the poem
please don't put me in that class
for to do so would be a ruse
like give me a undeserved mask
You won't see me under a tree contemplating
that grand old bard name Will
or reciting sonnets and pentameter
that keeps a fair maiden so still
I don't comprehend Persian
Rumi in his natural state I can't discern
only in second person
does he give me anything to learn
Aware am I of Yeats but for that pleasure
partial sourcing is my undergraduate degree
for both liberals and conservative...
