OBSERVATIONAL POEM

Black Ophelia
Not grasping flowers as she descends to oblivion,
Merely holding paraphernalia of abuse,
her sweet voice silenced by the heavy kiss of death,
as she sinks in her olive oil waters.
Bathing, in preservation of beauty,
the black Ophelia falls prey to the bard's sweet words,
the waters, “pulled the poor wretch down to muddy death.”
“incapable of her own distress.”
No flowery verse to mourn this passing,
no singing softly as she succumbs this coil.
The black Ophelia’s eyes are closed,
as the cold waters seal her fate.

Who are the heroes?
Boiling hate overheats their brains
Pumping blood distends their veins
Fists are clenched in vicious pose
All in the name of dead heroes.
All in the name of retribution
All in revenge for an execution
They pull the petals from England’s rose
All in the name of dead heroes.
Streets will run with rivers of blood
Faces hidden by mask and hood
Liberty writhes in near death throes
All in the name of dead heroes.
Fear is feeding fundamentalist lies
Terrorist bombers and government spies
Who can we trust? Nobody knows

The House of Commons
The right honorable member is spouting forth lies,
each word opens cuts as the truth slowly dies.
Each question evaded, each statement a farce,
his miserable bleating’s pour out of his arse.
His repetitive platitudes, disingenuous crap,
the space where the truth was,
Please mind the gap!
Opposition, objects and stands for the truth
The dishonest, hot air is melting the roof
They shout and they squeal like monkeys in cages
Their bullshit recorded on Hansard’s trite pages
The mother of Parliaments is a pissed single mum
The MPs all her kids, self...

Tick Tock
Stand back, I may explode,
I hear my inner ticking.
Ticking like a fucking clock
my tight wound spring is clicking.
I'm just about to be unleashed
unwound in millisecond
A force of flying, skin and bone
paradise, the prize I reckoned.
My sweating palms, my double vision,
my panic, doubt and fear
The laughter and the smiling kids,
my doubt, my secret tear.
My aching shoulders, bear the load
my cargo of deadly malice.
My belief, my faith, jihad released,
destroy the heathen's palace.

Put up your hands!
The universal sign of surrender.
Part your buttocks and let the imperialists,
Shaft you into submission.
Democracy,
freedom of speech!
Heady ideals but none so pure,
as the pursuit of the black gold.
Crude, pun very much fucking intended,
Crude, yet sublime.
The pumping oil gives the money men
massive erections,
Guzzling down as much as they can drink,

TV channels, surf is up,
swim out to meet the rising tide,
of celebrity revelations and reality dross.
Up onto your board and catch the wave as it swells,
with cheap docu soaps, gameshows and fly on the wall dramas.
Faster now the wave is sweeping you along, Jeremy Kyle and Jerry Springer,
bolemia, bastards, wife beaters, sex addicts, drug takers and sleazy stories of salacious sex.
The wave reaches full speed, you lose your balance and you're washed away by a tsunami of shit
swim out to meet the rising tide,

Stacked on the runway,
no longer evoking sorrow and grief,
no longer a macabre, task.
Just a bloody chore.

Legalise Drugs?
Roll up, roll up to the new drug store
now its all legal it’s not like before.
Heroin, crack,
no complication,
Cannabis, “E’s”,
no condemnation.
the cops in the drug squad have called it a day.
those nasty old laws have all gone away.
Indulge in your weed,
take all that you need,
a calming spliff,
when you’ve had too much speed.
Take uppers and downers,
sniff glue and snort Coke,
Those “Nanny State” laws, are now just a joke.
Hallucinations, paranoia, sweating and panic,
memory loss, spaced out, wide eyed and manic,
go...
now its all legal it’s not like before.
