POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I have a Dark, Gothic sensibility that colours all my works. Poetry to me is the flow of the heart's blood, the deepest part of the soul.
Haunted
The vengeful ghosts from movie
And novels
Come from the writers’ minds
The “evil” spirits that haunt us
And torment
Come from within alone
No force from another in flesh
Or spirit
Can rend our lives so
No religion or belief can free
Or retract
The demons we spawn
Powerless we beg, and plead
And bargain
Against the power we created
Real spirits whisper, flicker briefly
And dissipate
Barely able to reach across
The phantoms we...

Fragment
There is a ghost in my hall
Mute and pleading
Tucked in the edges
Haunting a place it never lived
Cold and distant
Slipped in the cracks
Open, wide eyes with iris’ sewn shut
Terrorize and still
Fading into the walls
A seared mouth that will never open
Choking and poisoned
In a scream reversed
Beyond communication in a world alone
Hiding and trapped
By choice of its own.

Behind Halloween (Halloween 2013)
The snap of Autumn arrives
Bringing harvest where summer has been
Parties will echo the ancient rites
As red, yellow and orange replace green.
Bags of candy gathered in piles
And apples draped in caramel sheen
Costumes are bought, assembled or made
And the yards yield a scary scene.
Though fearful modern minds
Try in vain to intervene
Daylight becomes shorter as Night grows
Something waits in the shadows, unseen.
The mini-princess fairies
Young pirates and faux...

Poinsettias on an Open Grave
A year ago this Christmas Eve
My love was taken away from me
Leaving me alone to grieve.
I put poinsettias on her grave.
As the poison seeps into the soil
A poison seeps into my soul
A year late I still can only grieve.
I put poinsettias on her grave.
Christmas Eve night
Blind, drunk, and in pain,
I stagger to her site
And find an open grave.
“Come my Sweet” she softly croons
Her deep red eyes sanguine pools,
Empty, lonely, I swoon.
Together now forever
We leave poinsettias by an empty grave.
My love was taken away from me
Leaving me alone to grieve.
I put poinsettias on her grave.
As the poison seeps into the soil
A poison seeps into my soul
A year late I still can only grieve.
I put poinsettias on her grave.

We leave poinsettias by an empty grave.

A Passing
A different time:
A time of family
Gathered for the holidays
Generations
The youngest of which
Will barely remember.
A different era:
When a woman never
Went out without lipstick
Or a handbag
And dinner was planned
Every night.
A different place:
Neighborhoods full of children
Dads mowing lawns
Backyards
With summer barbeques
And fireflies.
The passing of a time:
The next generation
Watches the old movies

For Trash
(she is happier now)
I am dead
I dance
by the firelight
My rhythm
is the voice of the Risen
arch and gesture
My hand
twine and flow
My arms
twist and sway
My body
This is my enjoyment
My Danse Macabre
I am reborn
unclean flesh
falls away
tissue, muscle and hair
slough off
Pure bone
the Underneath
clean for all to see.
I am Pure.

Halloween Is Coming
As the days grow shorter
And the wind chills
The night begins to whisper…
Subtle changes week by week
As Nature winds down to Winter
Darkness softly encroaches…
The blaze of Summer recedes
We prepare to be swaddled
In the Ebony Embrace of Time…
Tomb for the past Cycle
Womb for the seeds of the next
The Doorway yawns.

Foliage
Foliage encroaches
ever patient
In the windows
of apartments
Through the cracks
of the asphalt
Invading the base
of old buildings
Filling the screens
of idle computers
Enfolding the arm
of the girl in the coffeeshop.

Halloween 2008
The sun slinks off sooner
Creeping away from the encroaching Dark
We be-earthed still slumber
Patience, soon
The ground grows less warmer
Keeping its chill form the previous Dusk
Gently, slowly we stir
Not yet, not yet
The air learns how to bite
Closing, the flowers retire back to the Grave
Yawning, stretching, we know
Not yet, but soon
The Days become more Night
The final summer flocks say their Goodbye
Restrained, we coil, prepared
Soon now, it is time.

Halloween 2012
Ring around the rosies,
Sing-song play
To keep fear at bay
Pocket full of posies
Folk tale talismen
To keep the ill at bay
Ashes, ashes,
Familiar spectre
Joins in the play
We all fall down,
Despite all efforts
Death has the final say
Sing-song play
To keep fear at bay
Pocket full of posies
Folk tale talismen
To keep the ill at bay
Ashes, ashes,
Familiar spectre
Joins in the play
We all fall down,
Despite all efforts
Death has the final say

Halloween 2011
Now, the flowers,
Thoughtfully picked,
Fade…
Now, the grass,
Carefully tended,
Withers…
As the leaves,
Recently turned,
Fall…
And the skies,
Once golden,
Grey…
Is when the grave,
With inviting arms,
Calls.
Thoughtfully picked,
Fade…
Now, the grass,
Carefully tended,
Withers…
As the leaves,
Recently turned,

Once golden,

Is when the grave,

The Strength of Love
Even though the world is getting cloudy,
I still see you
Even though the world is getting muffled
Your voice rings clear
Purple and White shine
The Light of my life
Even though I am tired and want to be left alone
I want you near
No food can sustain me
I thirst, but cannot drink
I can still show you that you are not small
You are the biggest, best part of my world
I know you are strong enough
Big enough
Deep enough
...
