Remind Me Never to be Showy
Remind me never to be showy,
Never to think a wrong needs attention to make up for it.
If I go through life humbly, I go through it successfully.
Let me never need all eyes my way,
or to make a mess just to save the day.
Let me never need my name in ear,
My face on site,
Or my skills top tier.
Let me be in joy just the way I am,
With a rare, earned smile and a shake of hand.
Remind me never to be showy.

A Mile on Foot and in Mind
Oh strangest summer day, warm and uninspired,
Through you I zoomed along, reckless on four tires.
Back then I was spontaneous, fresh life in every breath;
Too young to think of years to come, too young to think of death.
And so through blistering tarmac rolled my parent-paid new chariot.
Rather than stop to feel the sun, I dared myself to chase it.
What was that strip of gravel where I fancied I should ride?
That droll dip through the trees where I ignored the country side?
It matters not where impact made my spine the cost of thrills;
I was slowed amidst...

Thumb...
I love you, my thumb’s nail.
That sticker didn’t stand a chance.
You peeled up every edge
Like a non-adhesive dance.
My sister’s splinter thought
That it was safe, hid deep within,
But you know just the way
To get under his skin.
You’re usually my right hand guy,
And always by my side.
Your opposable efficiency
Has made life quite the ride.
So thank you, thumb upon my hand,
For everything you’ve done.
I want to thank God everyday
For giving Man the thumb.

Christmas Theives
Once a year, every year,
to the world a sort of cheer,
newest joy and freshest glee
that ourselves provide.
Yes ourselves, a debt to pay,
to the deer and to the sleigh.
Round the world in a single night,
providing their delight.
Round yon virgin, sweet mom and kid,
who knew what fun that sleigh had hid,
at the cost of Saint Nick and Christmas Day.
Jingle bells dimming and carols unsung;
the snow is thinning under the sun.
Back to the workshop and leave the light on. There is more to be done.
Round the clock and hour by...

What can love do?
Can lonesome nights kill?
They must not, for if they will,
Dead I'd be before A.M. Three,
For how long I wait for thee.
Can a yearning heart desist?
Truly not, for mine insists
That love for you will never cease,
No matter how long you're deceased.
Can absence make love fond?
This, too, I think is wrong.
If for time my love shan't stave,
My heart takes me to the grave.
Can love ever forget?
False this must be, I regret,
For your touch swept to my brain
A memory to this day...

Come to a Place
I was once in a place that I very well know,
with Marigolds popping where Marigolds grow,
and sun shining down on each inch where it hit,
and sundown glowing, were the moon that night lit.
But morning it was, as on all other days,
and I met the same people, threw the same ‘hey’s,
and I strolled around town no unusual path,
giving nobody pleasure and nobody wrath.
And later it went, my energy swept,
that I wondered on home the way I had left.
That night I dreamed nothing of too much import,
and...
